In the "heart"
of Monferrato
Le Coccole sits in
a strategic position at the center of the Monferrato area, a land with a rich
history and long-standing traditions.
This means that whoever decides to take a short trip to get away from chaotic
city life (Milan, Genoa, and Turin are just an hour away by car) will not have
time to become bored. Village festivals, celebrations, tasting sessions, markets
and fairs are held all year round. If you decide to visit us, you can have your
pick! Are you a gourmet?
In March you can taste delicious
polenta at the Bormida Monastery, in the Fontanile area. Barbera wine and garbanzo
beans await you in
Quaranti,
always in March, or... you can savor just the wine in Agliano and Castagnole
L. in April. There are many village festivals: the Risotto Festival (Sessame
- May), the Saracen Asparagus Festival (Vinchio - May), the Polentone Festival
(Cassinasco - May), the Fritter Festival (Cessole - May), the Robiola Cheese
Festival (Vesime - June), the Pepper Festival (Costigliole d'Asti - July), the
Fried Fish Festival (Cessole - August), The Agnolotto Pasta Festival (S. Caterina
R. D. - August), the Polenta Festival (Castelnuovo B. - October), and the Bagna
Cauda Festival (Belveglio
- October). And we must not forget to pay homage to the truffle, the
undisputed gastronomic sovereign of the area, to which at least one day a month
is dedicated! To conclude the year in a festive way, we suggest the Wine Festival
in Nizza Monferrato in November.
If you enjoy the social whirl and
want to be surrounded by knights, ladies, smithies, potters, minstrels, and
acrobats, don't miss the historical pageant in the ancient town of Bubbio in
April.
If you spend the year in the trench... come see the real barricades at the
Siege of Canelli in June. If your favorite team stumbled at
the beginning of the season, ... leave it fumbling and bumbling for once, and
come cheer on one of the factions at the famous Asti
Palio (September)! If your hopes for
a championship trophy have completely
vanished
by May, console yourself by celebrating the winner of the
Botti Race (Nizza Monferrato)!
If you are an antiques
buff, come to Nizza Monferrato every
third Sunday of the month, Asti every fourth Sunday, and Canelli every third
Saturday, and also visit the old farmsteads in the area... whenever you want!
